Someone here in Avatar United asked me if I would say something about finding a Real Life Love in Second Life as a part of a thread about Devoice and Second Life.
So here it is. I am it seams one of the few residents in Second Life who has found a Real Life love through Second Life as my current partner Ephedra Loon in Second Life is now my real life parter too.
All totally unintentional but happened as neather of us were looking for love in Second Life.
So I was thinking has anyone else had such experience out there?
Not me personally.
(Do I win the "Abrupt Answer of the Day" award?) :D
No.
I find the whole thing a bit odd myself although I probably shouldn't since I've found so many cool people inworld.
Perhaps I should try to be more open minded about it.
On the other hand I have heard horror stories.
There are so many I'm trying to keep thing positive, lol.
I know the feeling. I will make trying to keep positive my Non New Year's Resolution. LOL
Well the finding the partner real life and second life is the most positive thing that has happened to me in years.
With all the negative press Second Life gets real life it's a good thing :)
I ended up being with my Second Life partner in RL and just as you neither of us was on Second Life actively searching for love. We were friends and we just clicked. I have always tried to keep myself open minded when it comes to the internet because I look at it like, when I go out places in my RL, I can meet some cool people and I can meet some weird as hell people, JUST like online. I like to consider myself in the realm of not whackos so I would like to think their are others there too. Yeah I've met some crazy mofos online, but so have I in RL.
So true there is little fundamentally different about meeting people in Second and Real Life bar things seam to happen quicker in Second Life and can be a bit more intense.
I've been very lucky in Second Life as I've always had the knack of finding and talking to good people and avoiding those who I have nothing in common.
There have been a few times when I talked to someone and very quickly figured out they were not worth talking to.
Well yes, in Second Life it is much different than in RL. For one, you do not have that wall of "is this person attractive or not" up. It's an avatar on a screen you see, and typically the person's attitude and personality you tend to take to thus you keep talking to them. In RL, dating for me has gone, you meet someone randomely each shows a small intrest, exchange numbers. Hang out a week later for a couple hours, don't see each other for a week but keep in short contact through text or 5 minute phonecall to make plans for the next week. Hang out for another short period, say at a movie. This usually goes on for months before people start talking about serious issues.
My RL partner whom I met in SL, I had actually known for some time in SL but we had never really sat down alone outside of our group of friends and hung out and chatted. Then months later we did and realized rather quickly this was it. I'm estatic that I did meet him, regardeless where it was. I don't look at the internet as "Bah humbug, it's full of weirdos." Because..I'm not THAT weird, I'd like to think. So I'm sure others aren't. :)
Yea i i have granted due to 4k mile distance makes our relationship difficult but we
make it work. As for being weirdos out there there defintely and some ppl who are
flat out desparate so it can go either way but i have found that yes you can find RL
love in game if you are willing to keep your heart mind and eyes open to the idea :)
