I just read this article and thought I had to share it. I don't like trends like this one and with Second Life 1.22 being out I hope it won't be a stable trend... Courtesy of TATERU NINO @ MASSIVELY "Your key takeaways for October are a continuing plunge in premium accounts, and a reduction in overall economic activity. User hours, however were up. A more detailed summary follows after the jump. The gains were: The losses: Basically while September was essentially a decline, October didn't seem to fare much better, except in user-hours. Demographically there seems to be little change. Second Life is still firmly in the hands of Baby Boomers and Generation X as far as active users go, and younger users statistically remaining unengaged. The percentage of user-hours consumed by users under 25 fell during October to 14.96% (including Teen Second Life)."
Thanks for sharing that Chris!
I think the positive to take away is there are more active users. That bodes well for SL's future.
With the economy being what it is, the downturn in money spent in SL is to be expected. I also think that SL being free to play makes it more attractive to future users. As SL pulls in more people, and the economy turns around, more money will be spent in SL.
Overall, bad for now, but with some very good signs for the future of SL.
I come to Second Life not to worry about such things as that should be left where it belongs in the Real World!
As far as I can see Second Life is still as strong as it has always been with little outward sign of a slow down. Statistics as always only show part of the picture and can be interperated in so may ways to almost render them next to useless at times.
